First photos of former Wakefield hotel damaged by blaze as fire service issues statement

Smoke and flames could be seen pouring from the roof of the former Stoneleigh Hotel on Doncaster Road, Agbrigg, after a fire broke out.
Fire crews were dispatched to tackle the fire, which was reported shortly after 9pm yesterday (Monday, February 22).

Hide AdA spokesperson for West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "At 21:11 hrs yesterday (22/02/21) the Fire Service Control Room received a call to a premises on Doncaster Road, Wakefield.
"This was a fire at a former hotel building.
"Four breathing apparatus, two hose reel and an aerial appliance were used to tackle the fire.
"Fire engines from Wakefield, Normanton and Ossett attended as well as an aerial appliance and one fire engine from Leeds fire station."
Photos and video from the scene offer a glimpse at the damage caused by the fire, with a large hole in the building's roof.

Hide AdThe images, taken earlier today, also show a damaged light and smoke stains inside the building.
Police remained on the scene in the early hours of this afternoon.
Permission was given to convert the former Stoneleigh Hotel into 27 flats in July 2011.
West Yorkshire Police have been contacted for comment.
