CASTLEFORD Tigers have signed up their youngest-ever member.

Albert Joe Cheesbrough has helped put the club on the brink of reaching the 3,000 mark in their ambitious target of 5,000 members.

Before he was even born, Albert Joe had been made a Tigers member for the 2013 season by his granddad and loyal Tigers supporter Terry Cheesbrough.

Terry said: “I have been attending Castleford games for 46 years and it is a tradition that I hope stays in the family for generations to come.

“When I heard about the membership scheme I wanted my new grandson to be a part of it and with the first 1,000 members’ names to be included on a special member’s shirt I couldn’t resist signing him up.

“At only one month old, he has a long way to go but as he grows up to be a Tigers supporter, the shirt will be a unique keepsake that he will be able to pass down to his own children in years to come.”

Following a busy three days, the club has handed out membership kits to more than 2,000 satisfied members.

Tigers chief executive Steve Ferres said: “It has been a massive operation to get these kits ready for collection and we have many people to thank but it really does make it all worthwhile when we see so many fans leave with smiles on their faces.

“We are really encouraged by the response they have had to the membership kits so far and we hope this will encourage even more people to sign up in the coming weeks.

“At just £50 the bronze membership is a great idea as a Christmas present for a loved one and unique in that it is one of few gifts that can actually increase in value as a result of the potential savings members can make through the savers scheme.”

There will be further opportunity for members to collect their kits from the ground today (Thursday) between 5pm and 8pm.

With the ‘early bird’ deadline extended until December 31, there is also plenty of time for supporters to secure their Tigers’ membership at a reduced price. Prices start as low as £42 (juniors) and £50 (adults). The scheme includes over 60 retailers in the Castleford area offering exclusive discounts.

Fans can sign up online at, in the club shop in Carlton Lanes or by calling 01977-555336.
