Castleford Tigers under 19s claimed their place in the Academy Grand Final as they came from behind to beat the City of Hull Academy 26-24.
They looked to be struggling when 18-10 down at half-time despite tries by Paddy Burns, after good work by Jake Trueman, and Jacques O’Neill, from Callum McLelland’s break and flicked pass. Calum Turner also kicked a goal.
But a bright start to the second half saw O’Neill jump out from dummy-half to power over and Jack Render converted. Cas went in front for the first time when Robbie Storey scooped up a loose ball and raced 40 metres to score. Render’s conversion made it 22-18.
Another try followed as Burns, Trueman and Turner combined to send Storey over.
Hull hit back with a converted try to make it a nervy finish, but the Tigers held on for a memorable victory and will now face Wigan in the final.
