Featherstone Rovers hooker Luke Teasdale and back-rower Joe Fox have both signed new one-year contracts.
Teasdale, 19, who joined Rovers from Leeds Rhinos, was a key figure in the Rovers under 20s squad that narrowly lost to Salford in last year’s Grand Final.
Fox, 21, who is Featherstone born and bred, joined Rovers from Huddersfield Giants last year. He was in line to make his Rovers first-team debut during last season but was struck down with illness and hospitalised the day before the game.
Rovers head coach John Bastian is delighted both players have signed new deals.
He said: “Luke is another talented youngster who we are delighted has decided his future is at Featherstone Rovers.
“Luke is working very hard alongside the first grade squad and recognises the importance of discipline and education.
“Being patient will allow Luke to progress and improve his rugby skills and allow him to physical and mentally develop, we recognise the potential in Luke and look forward to his progress within the first grade squad.
“Joe is another youngster who has lots of potential. He is a local product of the Featherstone Lions club who has a good work ethic and is working well within the first grade environment.
“He is a determined young man and we are all hopeful that he maintains and improves to be challenging the senior players.”
Teasdale said: “I am really happy to have signed at Rovers. Ever since I came to the club everyone has made me feel welcome and made my time here more enjoyable.
“I am really looking forward to the next year ahead of me especially with John Bastian coming into the club. He will help improve and develop me as a player.”
Fox said: “I am delighted to extend my stay at Rovers. It’s my hometown club and I am looking for a big year this coming season. I aim to further develop my game under the guidance of John Bastian with my ultimate goal of breaking into the first team over the next 12 months “.
Robin Sharp, Featherstone’s head of youth performance, is also pleased both players are staying at Rovers.
“We are really pleased to retain Luke for next season. He has fitted really well into our environment and his performances last season were very good,” said Sharp.
“Luke ticks a lot of boxes as a young and up and coming player. We believe he has the potential to be a first grade player in the near future and look forward to seeing him further develop over the next 12 months.
“I have watched Joe develop over a number of years through his amateur club Featherstone Lions and actually played a part in signing him for Huddersfield as a junior. Joe possesses a great work ethic and fantastic attitude to go along with his ability to play the game on the field.
“I am sure over the next 12 months an injury free Joe Fox can press ahead within the first-team environment and reach his potential as a player.”
