Promising under 19s player Brandon Westerman has signed a two-year extension with Castleford Tigers.
Westerman’s contract was due to expire at the end of the 2015 season, but his new deal will now keep him at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle until 2017.
The young second-rower has been training full-time with the first team since the 2014 season and he’s delighted to be staying put.
He said: “I’m chuffed to bits to have signed my new deal.
I absolutely love it here, playing for my hometown club is a dream come true. We have a great bunch of guys here who make me feel really welcome.”
Pete Riding, head of youth at the Tigers, is really pleased with how Westerman has developed.
He said: “I am delighted that Brandon has signed this new contract, which is not only recognition and reward for his efforts over recent times but further evidence of the value the club puts into producing local players from our own system.
“Brandon demonstrates the type of character we want to build the club on, in relation to his desire, commitment and dedication to being the best he can be.
“The way Brandon has developed over the last couple of years mirrors the way in which the club has evolved and sends a clear message to other players in our system that there is a clear pathway for local players to progress from the local community game all the way to being a full-time professional.”
