Wilson hands reigns to Wroe as Hemsworth aim for Corinthians win

MARK Wilson has stepped down as head coach of Hemsworth RUFC.

Friday, 4th February 2011, 8:00 am

Wilson has been forced to leave the role due to work commitments which mean he can’t attend midweek training sessions.

He’s handed control of first-team affairs to Carl Wroe, his assistant at Moxon Fields.

Wilson, who has helped guide the team to within reach of the Yorkshire Division 4 promotion places, will continue to help Wroe on the sidelines on matchdays.

“I’m gutted but I’ve had to do it because of a new job I’ve got,” said Wilson.

“It means I can’t attend training sessions so I’ve decided to step down and let Carl (Wroe) take control of the first team from now on.

“I’ll still attend weekend matches when I can and help out whenever I can.”

Wroe’s first game in charge of Hemsworth will come this Saturday when they host Leeds Corinthians at Moxon Fields (kick-off 2.15pm).

Nothing less than a victory will do if Hemsworth are to catch second-place Burley and achieve promotion this season.

They currently sit four points behind the Leeds-based club.

Corinthians edged the reverse league game last October 22-12 and Hemsworth will be keen for revenge.

Hemsworth have won their last three league games - all coming on home soil - to keep the pressure on Burley at the top of the table.

Corinthians sit eighth in the league table and go into the match on the back of two defeats on the spin.
