HEMSWORTH RUFC head coach Mark Wilson has branded his side’s 11-0 weekend loss at Old Otliensians as “one of the most embarrassing” performances since he’s been in charge at Moxon Fields.
Wilson had targeted victory with a bonus point to keep Hemsworth’s Yorkshire Division Four promotion push firmly on-track but they left well beaten.
“I think some of the lads went there thinking it would be a walk in the park,” said a disappointed Wilson.
“I told them at half-time that the performance wasn’t good enough but they didn’t listen, they just came out and played exactly the same way in the second half.
“Our possession play was dreadful, as was our discipline.
“All credit to Old Otliensians, they played well and slowed the game down to their advantage but we were really poor.”
A try 15 minutes in gave the hosts the lead before they added two more penalties to complete the scoring at half-time.
Hemsworth made changes at the interval and stern words were said but little changed on the resumption.
And Wilson is looking for a huge improvement when Hemsworth visit mid-table Mosborough on Saturday.
“If we perform like we did at the weekend we’ll get beat so we need to put in a performance against Mosborough,” he said.
“They have a strong pack and they’re not a bad side, especially at home, so it’s going to be a tough game.”
He continued: “There’s lots of work for us to do in training this week.
“We need to win every game now I think if we’re going to get promotion, it’s out of our hands but we do have the better fixtures.”
Wilson will welcome Chris Moody, a scrum-half, and James Bennett, a hooker, into his squad for the trip to Sheffield.
