HEMSWORTH MW will have a second bite of the cherry to progress in the FA Cup tonight.
Manager Wanye Benn takes his side to Runcorn Linnets (kick-off 7.45pm) for an Extra Preliminary Round replay after the sides drew 1-1 at the Fitzwilliam Sports Complex on Saturday.
Lee Swift’s 82nd-minute leveller took the tie to a replay against the odds after Hemsworth skipper Dean Foley was sent off with Runcorn 1-0 up.
Welfare will still be underdogs against higher-division opponents but Benn believes his side has every chance of progression.
“The important thing is that we’ve got a second bite of the cherry,” he said.
“It’s going to be tough, it’s a long trip in midweek and we’ll be without a few players due to work commitments.
“But we can take confidence from the way we came from behind on Saturday and we could have nicked it, there’s no reason we can’t go there and win.”
The winner of tonight’s replay will face a trip to Evo-Stik Premier League side Salford City in the Preliminary Round on Saturday, August 25.
Hemsworth will host a Leeds United Legends team in a benefit match for former player Mick Crapper next month.
Crapper suffered a serious injury while playing for the club 20 years ago and all proceeds will go to him and his family, who’ve been a key part of Welfare both on and off the pitch for many years.
The match will take place on Sunday, September 2 at the club’s Fitzwilliam Sports Complex base and a host of big-name former Leeds players are expected to play against a Hemsworth team including past and present players.
Admission will be £5 for adults and £2.50 for juniors.
An under-19s match involving Hemsworth MW will kick-off proceedings at 11am before the main match kicks-off at 2pm.
There will two bands playing, including Complete Madness, as well as a bouncy castle, face painting, refreshments and more entertainment on offer throughout the day.
