Castleford Tigers coach Daryl Powell was delighted with his side’s display after they beat Salford Red Devils 30-16 on Friday.

The Tigers climbed to seventh place with their second successive home win.

“It was a tough effort and defensively we were superb,” said Powell.

“I thought we started with a fair bit of intent and got some early points on the board.

“I thought our kicking game was exceptional. We got back to our standard and the way we wanted to play the game. We had a lot more composure and confidence in the way we went about our kicking game.

“It was a crucial match and we needed to win it. Now it’s about some consistency - that’s the key thing. We haven’t quite got that yet.

“We need to back up performances and get some consistency about us. We had a lot more players playing well tonight and they need to back it up.”

The only blow for the Tigers was loss of full-back Luke Dorn with a facial injury.

Powell said: “Luke has a bad cut on his face around his mouth. He doesn’t look good from what the medical guys are telling me. It looks like he’s going to need a lot of stitches.”
