South makes a point as last-gasp Blues hold high-flying Hednesford Town

DANNY South struck a last-minute equaliser for Frickley Athletic as they stretched their unbeaten run to seven matches with a 1-1 draw against Hendesford Town on Saturday.

Second-placed Town had led through a Ben Jevons strike two minutes before half-time.

The Blues had their chances in the first half. South headed wide and in-form James Ashmore also sent a free-kick just over the bar.

Peter Rinkcavage’s men also saw a couple of strong penalty claims waved away either side of half-time but they bagged an impressive point late on. Walsh saw his shot from a Ryan Mallon cross blocked and Brad Grayson sent the rebound into the path of South, who steered the ball into the back of the net.

Frickley: Dickinson, Cyrus (Whittington 79), Turner, Walsh, Ludlam, Gray, Bleau, Ashmore, South, Ryan (Grayson 71), Mallon. Unused subs: Schofield, Hood.

lFrickley will travel to Rushall Olympic in the semi-final of the Doodson Sport Cup.

The draw took place at the League Regional Meeting of clubs held at Ossett Albion last week and the Blues will visit Rushall Tuesday, March 20 looking to book a place in the final.

The other semi-final will see North Ferriby United host Kendal Town the following night.
