Running club’s membership hits record high

Ackworth Road Road Runners have achieved the highest membership in the club’s history with 172 paid up members.

Among recent significant performances from club members in national races was Terr Forrest’s third place in the Liverpool Rock and Roll Marathon in two 2hours 35 minutes, 30 seconds in a field of about 2,000 runners.

On the same day, in the Rock and Roll half marathon, Simon Newton finished 11th in 78 minutes, 30 seconds in a field of 5,500 runners.

Earlier, Newton had finished first in the Kent Road Runners Marathon in a time of two hours, 40 minutes, 42 seconds. Ackworth’s Simon Bennett completed in the South Downs Way 100 mile event which is mainly off road.

The Ackworth club, in association with the National Trust, will again be organising the Priory 5 and 10k races, at Nostell Priory on Wednesday, July 15. Entry details can be found on the club website.
