Featherstone Rovers bounced back from their home defeat against Dewsbury Rams with an 18-10 win against Hunslet Hawks at South Leeds Stadium on Friday.
It put Championship Shield leaders Rovers three points clear of closest rivals Dewsbury who visit Doncaster on Sunday.
Featherstone host London and Dewsbury are home to Workington in the final Shield matches on September 20 ahead of the semi-finals the following week.
Hunslet’s defeat on Friday saw them relegated from the Championship just one season after winning promotion.
Rovers came on top in a scrappy contest after going ahead in the 36th minute when hooker Andy Ellis went over from acting half and Paul Sykes converted.
Sykes doubled Featherstone’s lead four minutes into the second period when he goaled his own try after supporting Ben Blackmore’s superb break.
Hunslet replied when Danny Maun crossed from James Houston’s off-load but Rovers then struck an important blow when the Hawks lost the ball and Blackmore scooped it up to race 85 yards to score on his return to the side.
George Flanagan’s last minute try was too late to rescue Hunslet.
