Featherstone Rovers came crashing down to earth after their 20-4 win at Halifax when they were outplayed by Sheffield Eagles in Sunday’s Kingstone Press Championship game at Big Fellas Stadium.

Ex-Rovers half-back Kyle Briggs grabbed a hat-trick of tries to send his old club tumbling to a 40-28 defeat that left them just one point ahead of Doncaster who climbed to third place by beating Halifax.

Rovers visit Keighley next Sunday in their final match while Doncaster host Batley.

Both Doncaster and Batley have won their appeal against a points deduction.

Featherstone, without suspeded scrum-half Gareth Moore, started well with Andy Kain’s eighth minnute try but then fell away badly and trailed 22-4 at half-time.

Young hooker Luke Teasdale scored two second-half tries from acting half and Will Sharp and Chris Annakin also crossed, with Jack Bussey kicking four goals, but it wasn’t enough to rescue Featherstone.
