John Bastian, Featherstone’s new head coach, is looking forward to his side’s testing pre-season warm-up matches.

Rovers kick off their pre-season campaign with a home game against Hunslet Hawks on January 1.

They then host Wakefield Wildcats (January 12), Halifax (January 19) and Castleford Tigers (January 26).

“We’ve got some testing pre-season matches and that’s what we need. We want to test ourselves in those games and we want to have a look at some of our combinations,” said Bastian.

“We will be working on some things and the pre-season games are a good bench mark for us going forward.

“If you get a good start in any sport and any competition it builds confidence and confidence gives you a spring in your step.

“Hopefully, with hard work throughout the pre-season when we actually start the league campaign we will hit the ground running.

“Certainly that’s the aim of everyone at Featherstone Rovers. We want to be a winning team and we want to be really competitive every week and we want to try to perform for the supporters as well.
