Tupou tipped to ‘light up’ Wakefield Trinity and Super League

Wakefield Trinity Wildcats’ head coach Brian Smith has hailed the capture of former Australia star Anthony Tupou as one of the “club’s biggest moments for foreign imports”.

Prop/second-row Tupou, 31, joins from Cronulla Sharks on a two-year deal having represented his country and the New South Wales State of Origin side.

Smith said: “‘Toops’ has a tremendous representative record with Australia and NSW Blues as well as an NRL record with the (Sydney) Roosters and Sharks.

“His leadership and great attacking talents are sure to light up the 2016 Super League and Wakefield.”

Kiwi international Jake Webster has signed a new one-year deal with Castleford Tigers. The former Hull KR centre/second-row, 32, has recovered well from a serious knee injury.

Widnes Vikings second-row Danny Tickle, who used to play for Halifax, Wigan, Hull FC and England, is in a “stable” condition in hospital after being assaulted outside a nightclub in the early hours of Sunday morning. His club has been advised he will make a complete recovery.

A 32-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and bailed until November 29.
