Sykes hits two unbeaten half centuries

Featherstone Town under 13s captain Jack Sykes had a memorable day on Sunday.

Jack hit his maiden senior half-century with an unbeaten 54 for Featherstone 2nds in a seven-wicket defeat at Brodsworth Main in the Pontefract and District Cricket League’s Heywood-Williams Trophy second round.

Earlier the same day, he struck 52 not out for the club’s under 13s in a victory at Normanton.

He was well supported by Max Godridge (45no) as Featherstone reached 144-2 at Normanton whose reply was kept in check by Town’s excellent bowling attack, led by Jacob Merrick.

Another of the club’s under 13s Alfie Dobson took two wickets in the senior cup game.

In other Heywood Williams Trophy ties, Brook-Walton won at Barnby Dun, Normanton beat Stainborough and Frickley knocked out Wakefield Thornes.

Eggborough Power Station and Old Sharlston conceded matches against Fairburn and Knottingley respectively.

In the AJS Teamwear Trophy second round, Charlie Abel (86no), Matthew Faulkner (39 and 3-16) and James Faulkner (4-41) were Thorpe Audlin’s match-winners against Streethouse.

Michael Tucker (48) was Streethouse’s top scorer.

Hundhill Hall won a low-scoring game at Yorkshire Main by eight runs.

Hundhill managed only 81 but they were rescued byJack Gascoigne (3-20), Simon Jewitt (2-18) and Dan Ferguson (2-11) who restricted Main’s reply to 73.

Bentley Colliery beat South Kirkby by two wickets and Brodsworth Main won by 56 runs at Crigglestone.

Netherton narrowly came out on top at Stanley Falcon.

Sam Holmes (4-23), Conrad Burdekin (2-5) and Richard Earnshaw (2-26) dismissed Netherton for 96 but Stanley’s reply fell just short when Daniel Craig (4-22), Steve Broughton (2-13) and Andy Townend (2-17) bowled them out for 89.

Lincoln Steele hit 49 in Nostell’s three-wicket win at Pollington.

Hensall conceded their second round tie at Ryhill and Havercroft.
