The Castleford, Pontefract & District Table Tennis League started its new season last week with nine teams as the side from Selby who were shown as Knottingley A dropped out after their results were not as good as anticipated.
New players have been recruited and a total of 40 are now registered with the league.
Knottingley A lost 9-1 to YMCA E, but Neil Cooper, borrowed from the B team, did well against Daniel Ferguson, losing 12-14 in the fifth set. He lost over three to newly recruited Barry Johnson and Tom Wilkinson.
Alan Yip also lost to Daniel in the fifth by two points. He beat Barry convincingly over three, but lost to Tom over three. Dennis Shaw lost over three to Daniel and Tom and over four to Barry. The doubles was conceded due to time factors.
Newly recruited John and Julie Wainwright’s first encounter was impressive albeit they lost to all their opponents as C Station B were beaten 10-0 by YMCA C.
John was beaten by Paul Morris and Nigel Brook over three and Paul Dykes over four after taking the first set. Julie lost to Paul M and Paul D over three, but took the first game from Nigel before losing the next three. Robert White lost all his games over three sets.
In the doubles John and Robert lost over three to Paul and Nigel in a fairly close game.
Captain Keith Lumb lost over three to former champions Rob Connell and Peter Hugill, but went on to beat new recruit John Spedding, over five competitive sets in C Station A’s 9-1 defeat to YMCA A 9.
Richard Fry and substitute Robert White lost all their games over three. But they came together in the doubles and took the opening set from Rob and Peter before losing the next three.
