Excellent year for Ackworth runners

Ackworth Road Runners held a highly successful awards evening at Burntwood Court, Brierley, when 70 members celebrated the performances of 2014.

Thy award winners included Gail Wrangles and Steve Wiggleworth (spring handicap), Emma Smith and Guy Leech (summer handicap), Evelyn Owen-Smith and Guy Leech (autumn handicap, Angela Dales and Peter Grimoldby (winter handicap). The handicap series winners were Victoria Adams and Mark Mills.

First home in the London Marathon - winning the Mike Eaton trophy) - were Rebecca Winter and Simon Newton.

Grand Prix series winners were Rebecca Winter (Betty Goodwin Trophy) and Neil Holt (Ryder/Thorpe Memorial Shield).

Runners up were Liane Warren and jointly Adrian Byrom and Craig Tipton.

Age graded winners were Denise Clarke and Martin Stearne.

Fifty one members gained grading awards, based on national standards. Pride of place went to Trevor Nichol and Martin Stearn (the Founder’s Trophy winner and runner up) who both gained the prestigious platinum award for the fourth successive year.

There were ten recipients of the gold award, an increase of six over last year.

Gemma Guy was the winner of the most improved award (Eric Wood Memorial Shield), with Denise Clarke runner up and Victoria Adams third.
