Hemsworth duo Scott Askham and Marc Diakiese met with contrasting fortunes when they took part in UFC Fight Night London last Saturday.

The huge bill at London’s O2 saw the fighters who run the ASW Gym in Hemsworth both in action as part of a showcase of British talent.

Askham was first up in a middleweight contest against Bath’s Bradley Scott, but suffered his fourth defeat when he was narrowly outpointed, losing on a split decision with many onlookers believing he should have been given the verdict.

He was caught with a big hook in the opening round that knocked him down, but survived and recovered sufficiently to get some big blows of his own in during the second round.

The final round was even and hard to call despite the Hemsworth man suffering a leg injury, but it was Scott who got the nod on the judges scorecards with two giving it to him 29-28 and one going with Askham by the same score.

Next up was Diakiese in his third UFC bout at lightweight and he maintained his unbeaten record with a knockout display as he stopped Finland’s Teemu Packalen, who had only been beaten once previously, inside a round.

There was no need for judges this time as Diakiese produced a stunning right hand that knocked his opponent spark out after just 28 seconds in possibly the best performance of the night.
