MINSTHORPE Community College kicked-off the new academic year by officially opening its new football academy.
The South Elmsall college spent the summer months planning the launch of the academy, which it hopes will attract budding footballers from around the area.
Mayor of South Kirkby Coun Pat Evans and Mayor of South Elmsall Coun Peter Jordan joined former Burnley and Sheffield Wednesday assistant manager Russ Wilcox, of South Elmsall, and academy football director Martin Stringfellow at the official launch.
And Stringfellow, who will coach the college’s footballers for up to ten hours per week, is confident the academy will offer top coaching for footballers around the area.
“We’re hoping it will attract people to come to the college and take part in the academy,” he said.
“Not only that but we can now offer students the chance to stay on beyond the age of 16 in the football academy instead of going elsewhere, it’s a great thing for the college.”
