Castleford Tigers players have their last chance to impress head coach Daryl Powell ahead of the new Super League season in a final warm-up match confirmed this week.

The Tigers team taking the field in a pre-season contest against Dewsbury Rams at the Tetley’s Stadium on Saturday (kick-off 7.30pm) will not be as strong as the one that hammered Bradford Bulls 66-10 last weekend, but will include several first teamers aiming to prove their fitness and match sharpness before the season proper begins the week after.

Head coach Daryl Powell will not name his side until today, but confirmed that half-back Jamie Ellis and forward Nathan Massey will both be included to play their first game after overcoming injuries.

He said: “The Dewsbury game is another opportunity for a few players who haven’t played yet – people like Jamie Ellis and Nathan Massey who will get a hit-out. Adam Milner needs another game as well.

“It’s a good opportunity for people to press their claims to start the season and will provide valuable game time for people who need it.

“I am pretty certain on a large chunk of players who will be in the team for the start of the season, but there’s a few places that this game should really sort out.”

Powell may include the four players who came in for their first pre-season game at Bradford, but he was happy with all their contributions against the Bulls.

He added: “Michael Shenton was excellent so was Weller Hauraki, both played really well in their first games of pre-season. Adam Milner came off the bench and did pretty well so all three of them were good.

“It’s great to get your first game under your belt after a long pre-season so they were all pleased to get out there and start their campaign off.

“Ashley Gibson got his first hit-out in Castleford colours. He did some smart things with the ball, but he needs to improve on his defensive effort.

“But he hadn’t played for a while so he will certainly sort that out.”

Tickets for the Dewsbury Rams game will be on sale on the gate only. Prices are: Adults seated £11; adults standing £10; concessions seated £6; concessions standing £5; juniors (under 16s) £2; junior season ticket holders under 16 free on presentation of their season tickets.
