LONG standing fan Malcolm Cartwright has been watching his beloved Castleford Tigers team since 1947 and in all those years had never bought a season ticket - until this year.
The 75-year-old from Castleford used to stand at the Railway End with his father when he first started coming to matches and has followed the club ever since. But as an avid marathon runner, who has run all over the world, he has not been in a position to commit as a season ticket holder.
The father and grandfather, who still stands in the same spot with his son and grandson to this day, has nevertheless made the decision to sign up as a member along with his family for the 2013 season.
Malcolm said: “I attended the membership launch event at Civic Centre and really liked what Steve Ferres and Nick Fozzard had to say as well as their plans for the club’s future.
“It is this and my continued love of the club that has made my decision to become a member this year and I am looking forward to what the new season will bring.
“I have many, many memories of watching great players down at Wheldon Road and I look forward to watching more Castleford heroes in the years to come.”
Tigers chief executive Steve Ferres said: “Stories like Malcolm’s show just how much of a family game rugby league continues to be in Castleford. Three generations of Cartwrights attend matches and we hope that his grandson’s children will be attending as members in the future. This shows why it’s important we attract new young fans to ensure longevity of the game; in the hope that they will bring their children and their children’s children in generations to come.”
There is still opportunity to make the most of the extended early bird deadline with prices for Tigers membership starting at £42 for juniors and £50 for adults until Monday, December 31. Fans can sign up online at www.castigers.com/members, in the club shop at Carlton Lanes or by calling 01977 555336.
