A SIX-a-side football team from Hemsworth could be running out at Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium if they’re successful in qualifying from the regional finals of a nationwide tournament this weekend.
Lawton’s Legends, who play in the Hemsworth Champion Soccer League, will compete in the regional finals of the Powerleague Lucozade 5’s in Trafford, Manchester, on Saturday for a place in the national finals.
Rob Rollin (player-manager), Scott Folletti (captain), Steve Wigglesworth, Guy Lawton, Lee Carrington, Carl Wilson and Damien Liddle form the team that will aim to book a memorable day out at the Premier League club’s 60,000-seater stadium alongside the best six-a-side teams from around the country.
Player-manager Rob said: “We are a group of six Hemsworth lads who have played six-a-side football for the past ten years.
“We’re just a good bunch of friends that always stick together and are reaping the rewards for that now.
“We love the game and it would be immense to represent this area at such a level.”
The team qualified through the Nike Umbro 5’s tournament.
The initial stages were held at Powerleague Leeds and the Legends saw off Yorkshire Main in the final to book their place in the regional finals this weekend.
The action will take place at the Powerleague pitches at the Trafford Centre, and sadly not Manchester United’s famous Old Trafford stadium.
The team has already won a month’s supply of Lucozade, the tournament sponsors, for their efforts but the big prize still lies ahead if they manage to sweep aside their opponents this weekend and book a trip to London for the finals.
