SCOTT Askham will be one of three mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters from the Hemsworth and South Elmsall area on the bill at a show at Doncaster Dome next month.

Askham, 23, will join fellow Hemsworth fighter Tommy Miller and South Elmsall’s Wayne Murray on the bill at the event on Saturday, December 3.

He’ll be looking to make it four wins from four since turning professional and will be eager to get back into the ring after seeing his last scheduled bout at the Barnsley Metrodome called off.

Huddersfield-based Matthew Earnshaw will be his opponent on the night and although confident of his ability to secure another pro win, Askham knows a tough fight lies in wait.

“I know his coach and I know he likes his fighters to work a lot on their groundwork so I’ll have to prepare for that,” he said.

“I think he’s won one and lost one of his fights so far so I’ll have to be at my best to beat him.”

Askham has now fully recovered from a shoulder injury which limited his practice last month and will step-up his training at Matrix MMA in Doncatser in preparation for the fight.

“The shoulder’s feeling really good now,” he said.

“I’ve got a few weeks until the fight so I’m going to really step it up and put a lot of hard work in over the next few weeks.”

It will be his last competitive bout in what’s been a so-far successful 2012 in the ring for the Hemsworth MMA ace.

Askham admits it was disappointing to see his last scheduled fight cancelled but is keen to finish the year with another victory.

He said: “I hoped to have five professional fights under my belt before the end of the year.

“I’ll have had four and hopefully I’ll have won four so that’s not too bad and I’ll kick-on next year.”

MMA is a full contact combat sport that allows the use of both striking and grappling techniques.

It includes boxing, wrestling, Muay Thai, kickboxing, karate and judo. The local trio will be one of a number of fights scheduled for the event in Doncaster.

Tickets for the event are priced at £30 each or £600 for a VIP table of ten. Anyone interested in buying tickets should contact Scott on 07584 250727 for more information.
