HEMSWORTH will get their Yorkshire League Division 4 campaign underway on Saturday with a trip to Wetherby.

The Moxon Field side have enjoyed a productive close season, mainly against higher division opposition, and will look to get their 2011-12 campaign off to a winning start in North Yorkshire.

Hemsworth wrapped up their pre-season friendly matches with a trip to Rotherham Phoenix.

It proved a tough test for the visitors, with the boot of the Rotherham number ten kicking three well-taken penalties to give them the spoils.

Hemsworth coaches Mark Wilson and Carl Wroe will have been disappointed with some of the ill-discipline on show by their men, and it’ll be something they’re keen to improve upon for the season opener on Saturday.

Wilson’s men also took on Doncaster and Huddersfield, both Yorkshire One teams, over the summer and produced good displays to make the matches close fought and give the Moxon Fields men plenty of reasons to be cheerful ahead of the new season.

Hemsworth have managed to keep all of their young and talented squad from last season and also add to it.

Youngster Jacob Bailey has arrived at the club from Barnsley RUFC, while top talents Matthew Henstock and Brad Thomson have moved up to the first team this season.

Wilson and Wroe will be hoping their hard work over the summer pays off this Saturday with victory, and perhaps just as importantly, an impressive performance to kick-start their campaign.

Hemsworth’s first home game of the season comes against Halifax at Moxon Fields on Saturday, September 10.

Hemsworth 2nds had their first hit-out of the season at the weekend and enjoyed an emphatic 39-0 victory over Rotherham Clifton.

The result pleased returning captain Jason Garrick, with the team stepping up a league after last season’s comprehensive South Yorkshire Merit League triumph.

Hemsworth continued their winning form, and in some style, to topple Rotherham.

The second team kick-off their new season on Saturday, Thursday, September 15, but they have two more friendly matches to ensure Garrick’s men are primed for more success in 2011-12.
