Andy Hay was happy with Featherstone’s display in the 62-6 win against York City Knights last weekend.
And the Rovers boss does not intend to arrange another pre-season match before his team open their Championship campaign against Hunslet Hawks at Wakefield Wildcats on Monday, February 16 (7.30pm).
“I don’t think we need another game,” he said.
“ We’ve seen everyone who has been in contention for the first-team and we’ve looked at them in different positions as well. We’ve got a couple of weeks to finish off our pre-season training and we will be ready.
“We have a decent sized squad and we will probably do a full contact session before we play Hunslet.
“The performance against York was a lot better. We needed a little bit of confidence to take out of one of our pre-season games and I thought we finally put together some good stuff in attack and we defended a lot better as well. We still have some improvements to make and we won’t get carried away with it but there was a big improvement in attitude from our last outing.”
Prop Matt Nicholson made his comeback against York after major knee surgery.
Hay said: “We gave Matt two spells of around 10 minutes and he got through it okay.
“It’s the first time I’ve seen him play and he’s a big front rower who throws the ball well. He’s got some skill in him so he’s another player for us to get up to speed in the next couple of weeks.”
