FRICKLEY Athletic fell to a first home league defeat since Peter Rinkcavage took charge as promotion-chasing Matlock Town left the Tech5 Stadium with a slender 1-0 victory.
Ross Hannah’s superb strike in the 74th minute, and his 15th goal of the season so far, proved to be the winner in the Evo-Stik Premier Division on Saturday.
The defeat leaves the Blues with an unwanted run of three straight defeats and third-from-bottom in the league table.
Rinkcavage’s men shaded the first half in terms of chances with Ashley Burbeary and Ryan Watson coming close, while former Blue Lee Morris started in attack for the visitors and forced the first save for Frickley goalkeeper Ben Simpson.
The hosts continued to carve out the chances in the second half but Town gradually got the upper hand and netted their winner with 16 minutes to go.
A long free-kick forward, following a controversial off-side call, landed at the feet of Hannah, who rounded Dean Jones before firing his effort beyond Simpson.
The victory was Matlock’s second 1-0 league victory over the Blues this season.
