RYHILL HAMMERS progressed to the semi-final of the Wakefield Open Cup and secured local bragging rights with a convincing 36-14 win over neighbours Kinsley Raiders.

Kinsley, who fielded a number of young players in the starting-line up, were simply overpowered by a bigger and stronger Ryhill side. Strong winger Carl Fallas was Ryhill’s man of the match, with Kinsley’s accolade going to Richard Pickersgill. Danni Smith, 17, also excelled for Raiders.

Kinsley will be hoping for better fortunes when they go up against Ryhill twice more in the CMS Yorkshire League this season.

They return to Division 2 action this weekend when they host Wakefield City, while Ryhill return to action looking for their first points of the season at home game against Crofton Cougars.

Upton bowed out of the Hamuel Reichenbacher Yorkshire Cup by suffering a 30-10 home defeat against Thornhill Trojans.

The Quarry Lane side return to league action on Saturday with a trip to Normanton Knights.
