IT’S the battle of the Blues on Monday (kick-off 3pm) as Frickley Athletic and Whitby Town both look to put a winless December behind them and kick-off 2012 with three big points.
Both sides are out-of-form going into their first fixture of the new year, with Whitby losing all three of their December fixtures and Frickley losing all four of theirs.
And both will be looking at Monday’s clash at the Tech5 Stadium as the ideal opportunity to secure three much-needed points.
Whitby have struggled all season and sit second-from-bottom going into the game. Frickley have shown patches of good form but their current dip, which has seen a steady slide towards the Evo-Stik Premier Division relegation places, will be worrying for boss Peter Rinkcavage and Blues fans alike.
Rinkcavage has, however, been pleased with the majority of his side’s performances in recent matches but has been left frustrated at a failure to turn those performances into points.
It’s now getting to the point where the manner of victory, for one game at least, may not be so important as Rinkcavage looks to arrest his side’s worrying recent form. Three points, however they come, will be a welcome three points for the Frickley boss come 4.45pm on Monday.
Whitby may be the ideal side for Frickley to look to end their winless run, which stretches back to mid-November and a 1-0 home win over North Ferriby United.
Town have picked up just two league wins all season and are all set for a relegation battle this term.
Their two wins, however, have come away from home and Whitby too will be looking at Frickley as a chance to secure three much-needed points.
