FRICKLEY Colliery snatched a seven-run victory at Crofton to raise hopes of avoiding relegation from Pontefract and District Cricket League Division 1 but there was a 24-run defeat for Colliery’s second team at the hands of Sandal in Division 3.

Batting first at Crofton, Keith Whitehouse (23), James Phillips (27), James Blacker (31) and Rizwan Ali (20), provided a base but Frickley were dismissed for 123.

Claiming the wickets were Chris Cooper (4-19), Richard Cooper (2-16) and John Cooper (2-33).

Crofton also struggled with the bat however and despite a valiant 41 not out from Tracy Shepherd, Greg Walton (10) and S Gaffer (13) were the only other batsmen to reach double figures as the hosts returned to the pavilion with just 116.

Adam Lowery led the bowling attack with 4-27 while good support came from Steve Honeyman (3-26), Khalid Hussain (2-17) and James Blacker (1-31).

Frickley host Nostell St Oswald next Saturday, wickets pitched 1.30pm.

Sandal batted first in their clash with Colliery seconds at South Elmsall with Danny Ridley (46) and Sam Noden (49 not out) providing the lion’s share of their total of 174.

Paul Kirkham snared 3-34, Matthew Ramsden 2-27 and Luke Heritage 2-63.

Opener Matthew Ramsden (43) tried to anchor the home reply but Luke Malone (12), George McIntyre (17), Scott Fairbrass (14), Kieran McIntyre (15) and Paul Kirkham (15 not out), were the only others in double figures as they were dismissed for 150.

Gary Dack returned 5-32, Kashif Najam 2-17 and Sam Noden 2-35.

Frickley travel to Thorne Colliery next Saturday, start 1.30pm.
