FRICKLEY Athletic picked up their first point of the season thanks to a 1-1 draw against Ashton United on Saturday.

The Blues put in an improved performance at Westfield Lane but still trailed 1-0 at the break as Matty Barlow fired the visitors ahead in first-half stoppage time following a even first half.

Karl Rose’s side had to wait until the 71st minute to grab their equaliser. Glyn Cotton’s free-kick was only cleared as far as Inderjeet Aujla, who struck a sweet shot into the back of the net.

Both sides had golden opportunities to bag all three points but Mark Peers saw his header come back off the bar for Ashton and Frickley’s Danny South saw his looping header cleared off the line.
