Frickley Athletic boss Karl Rose has injury concerns over no fewer than seven of his first-team regulars ahead of Thursday night’s big Sheffield and Hallamshire Senior Cup Final against Sheffield FC at Hillsborough (kick-off 7pm).

Rose and his Blues players are desperate to finish their season by adding some long-awaited silverware to the Westfield Lane cabinet but he expects to have to “patch up” some of his key men to get the job done.

Goalkeeper Jamie Green is struggling with an ankle knock, while Joe Wilcox has a thigh strain, Gavin Allott has an ankle problem and Jimmy Ghaichem has a knee injury. James Burgess has been sidelined for a number of weeks and is Frickley’s biggest doubt for the match.

Some players missed training on Tuesday night but Rose is prepared to give them all until the very last minute to prove their fitness.

“We’ve got seven of our possible starting eleven as doubts,” admitted Rose.

“It’s not ideal but I’m optimistic that most of them will be able to play. Burgess is the biggest concern but the other lads should be able to get through one more game.

“If there were still a few weeks left in the season and this match wasn’t a cup final I’d probably not play some of them, but with it being the last match, and a big occasion at that, hopefully they can come through.

“The majority of the injuries are not too serious so it’s not like players will be playing through them and worsening their injuries dramatically, it might just mean it takes a week or two longer to recover, and we’re at the end of the season so that shouldn’t be a problem.

“The desire to win a cup and play on the big stage should hopefully carry them through.”

Frickley have been allocated the away dressing room at Hillsborough, as they were in last season’s cup final, which they lost against Worksop Town.

The match will kick-off at 7pm, and not 7.30pm as the Sheffield and Hallamshire FA had previously advised, and admission is £7 for adults and £3 for concessions. Entry for Frickley supporters will be at the Penistone Road end of the South Stand.

Frickley Juniors U10s will provide pre-match entertainment when they take on Sheffield FC U10s in a warm-up match, kick-off at 6pm.
