GOALSCORER: Jake Picton netted for Frickley in the 3-2 defeat at Nantwich Town

Ten-man Frickley were beaten by a late Joseph Guest penalty at Nantwich Town in a five-goal thriller on Saturday.

The Blues had battled back to get on level terms through Jake Picton with six minutes to go but Patrece Liburd saw red for hauling down Harry Clayton inside the box and Guest converted the spot-kick to give Town a 3-2 victory.

The match was high-paced from the start and Nantwich took just five minutes to open the scoring when Clayton’s angled 25-yard strike looped over the head of Blues goalkeeper Jamie Green and into the back of the net.

It could have seen the Blues suffer, but instead Karl Rose’s men produced an immediate response when Jamie Wootton headed in a Jason Yates free-kick to level matters a minute later.

Gavin Allott tested Nantwich stopper Jonathan Brain ten minutes later and a Yates free-kick zipped across the face of the goal.

But Town regained their advantage in the 26th minute when the visitors failed to deal with a Nantwich corner, Charlie Raglan pouncing with a header at the far post.

Green had to push a PJ Hodgson free-kick off the line a minute later as Town looked to build on their lead.

The two teams frequently cancelled another out after the interval, with Chris Wood and Chris Howarth replacing Luke Hinsley and Jamie Wootton for the Blues, while Nantwich sub Kyle Wilson made an impact, having an angled drive diverted by Green in the 73rd minute.

Wilson rattled the bar four minutes later and Clayton headed in the rebound but was ruled offside.

Allott also hit the bar for the Blues and Chris Wood saw a header blocked on the line before the Blues levelled for a second time.

Picton intercepted a back header and made Town pay with a clinical finish four minutes from time.

Joy was replaced by despair two minutes later when Liburd brought down Clayton in the box to earn a second yellow card and his dismissal.

Guest converted the spot-kick to give Nantwich a fortunate success and leave Frickley with nothing to show for their efforts.
