Frickley Athletic have received a big boost with the news last season’s top scorer Gavin Allott has signed a contract to keep him at Westfield Lane until at least the end of next season.

The striker was a sensation in South Elmsall last season, having scored 30 goals in 37 appearances and being included in the Evo-Stik Premier Division Team of the Year.

His form attracted the attention of other clubs, some higher in the football pyramid, last season and Blues boss Karl Rose is pleased to have secured his services for the forthcoming campaign.

“I’m delighted Gav has signed a contract as he’s a big player for us and was quite rightly voted one of the best strikers in the League last season,” he said.

“He scored a hatful of goals last season and I know he’s eager to beat that this time around.”

Chairman Gareth Dando added: “It’s fantastic news for the club to have secured Gav for the new season. We fought off approaches for him from numerous clubs last year, including a number of Conference sides so for Gav to commit to us shows he believes in the manager and where the club are heading.

“It shows the ambition of the club to secure key players and build a competitive squad going forward.”

Other players to have signed non-contract forms so far for the 2013-14 season are striker Luke Hinsley, defenders Joe Wilcox and Luke Jeffs and goalkeeper Tom Woodhead.

Matty Bloor and Jimmy Ghaichem are already contracted to the club.
