Frickley aim to make home ground a fortress

FRICKLEY Athletic boss Karl Rose says he wants to make the club’s Westfield Lane base a fortress next season.

Rose will take to the home dugout for the first time on Saturday when the Blues host Stourport Swifts in a pre-season friendly (kick-off 2pm).

It gives Frickley fans their first chance to see Roses’s new-look squad in action on home soil and the Blues boss hopes to kick-off a winning habit at home.

“I’m looking forward to the first home game,” he said.

“We’ve got to make it a fortress next season and we need to start that by getting another win against Stourport.

“It’s our house and we’ve got to make sure we make it a tough place to come for teams next season.”

Frickley have won their first two friendly matches of the summer - beating Hemsworth MW 4-1 and Bridlington Town 3-0.

Rose is looking to make it three from three this weekend and get a winning mentality into his squad in time for the new Evo-Stik Premier League season.

“For the last eight or ten years Frickley, with all respect, have had a losing mentality,” he said.

“We need to use these games to get a winning mentality within the squad and the sooner that’s set in the better.

“It helps that a new management is in place and we have 15 or so new players in the squad so we can start from scratch in that respect.

“We need to get the lads used to winning.”

Frickley have confirmed the signings of centre-back Scott Hellewell, midfielder Chris Glarvey, pictured right, and Blake Freeman.

But the recruitment hasn’t stopped there with Rose still keen to add “three or four” players to his squad.

“We’re looking at any players who we can get who will improve the squad,” he said.

“I’m still looking for a couple of wide players and hope to have one player signed at training on Thursday.”
