FREESCORING Frickley Athletic eased into the second round of the Sheffield and Hallamshire Senior Cup with an 8-0 thrashing of Bentley Colliery at Westfield Lane on Tuesday night.
Chris Wood spearheaded a skillful performance with four goals to kick-off the Blues’ search to reach the Hillsborough final for the second year running.
He slotted in the opener after eight minutes to set the ball rolling and then converted a penalty after Luke Hinsley was fouled inside the box.
The Bentley attack could make no impression on a competent home back four and Wood completed his hat-trick in the 26th minute, while Jason Yates was on target in the 32nd minute with a scorching 35-yard drive.
Colliery’s first chance came in the 36th minute when Lee Drobac got clear buit fired straight at Tom Woodhead.
There was no respite for the visitors after the interval, with Jake Picton making it 5-0.
Yates got his second with another blistering 25-yard effort in the 71st minute, while debutant Jake Quickenden came close to opening his account.
To their credit Bentley never gave in, but their troubles were not over, Terry Barwick rifling in a 30-yard free-kick, while Wood finished off the spree with a close-range effort with a minute to go.
Zack Levers had replaced Tom Woodhead in the home goal in the the 71st minute, and showed his merit as a goalkeeper with a superb save from Ash Hunter in stoppage time.
