Barnsley extended their unbeaten pre-season run to four games after a 1-0 win against SPL side Kilmarnock, courtesy of a strike from new signing Conor Wilkinson.

The striker headed home George Smith’s delivery nine minutes into the second-half to complete another solid display from Lee Johnson’s side.

Marley Watkins and Wilkinson combined in the first-half with the latter’s effort thwarted while Watkins tested Craig Samson with a drive from a narrow angle.

Adam Davies was called into action to deny Josh Magennis’ low effort in a closely fought first-half.

Wilkinson’s header into the bottom corner from Smith’s pinpoint cross proved to be enough for the Tykes and Watkins should have doubled the lead four minutes later, blazing over from a corner.

Samson denied Watkins one-on-one 15 minutes from time while Kris Boyd was denied a late equaliser after good blocks from Wilkinson and Alfie Mawson.
