Frickley Athletic kicked off their pre-season campaign with a 1-1 draw away to Armthorpe Welfare on Monday night.
Manager Spencer Fearn fielded a strong side, including star strikers Jacob Hazel and Gavin Allott, as well as new signings James Gray, Jamie Maguire and Connor Smith in the starting line-up, but as it was the first hit out it was mostly about getting the players fitter.
The Blues started well, but Allott had an effort cleared off the line then saw a penalty well saved following a foul in the area. The game stayed goalless to half-time, although the hosts hit the post.
Welfare went in front two minutes into the second half, Jason Kearsley steering a first time shot in off the right hand post from outside the box.
They looked set to hold on for the win only for Frickley to level two minutes from time through Nicky Darker’s spectacular 25-yard shot.
