SOUTH Elmsall-born Doncaster Rovers defender Jamie McCombe looks set to spend three months on the sidelines through injury.
The former Frickley Athletic defender didn’t play in Rovers’ 1-0 win over Shrewsbury Town on Saturday owing to a thigh injury and hairline fracture of the spine.
Doncaster boss Dean Saunders called his absence a “big blow”, blamed the injury on “wear and tear”, and confirmed today that the towering centre back could be out for the rest of the year.
The 29-year-old had formed a strong partnership alongside former Sheffield Wednesday captain Rob Jones at the heart of Rovers’ defence following his summer switch from Huddersfield Town.
The news is a big blow to McCombe and Rovers, who are looking to secure a return to the Championship at the first time of asking.
McCombe had made 11 appearances in all competitions for Doncaster before his injury setback.
