The successful Skills School Academy at Hemsworth Sports Centre is looking to attract more players from the area.

Since the football training sessions were set up in February, 2016 by top professional coach Nick Green a number of youngsters attending have received offers from clubs such as Leeds United, Doncaster Rovers, Chesterfield, Rotherham, Manchester City, Barnsley and Sheffield Wednesday.

The aim of the academy is to give local children a chance to have fun while learning and developing their skills. Sessions take place for ages 7-13 on Thursday evenings, 6-7pm with coaching for outfield players and goalkeepers and there are skills sessions for ages 4-14 on Wednesdays, 5-7pm.

Every session is delivered by professional UEFA A licence and FA Advanced Youth coach Nick Green – who has over 12 years experience developing players and has worked with several now playing in the Football League and even with England – and UEFA B licensed outfield and goalkeeping coach Andy Middleton, who is also experienced in the development of local players with many progressing to have careers in the game.

Nick said: “We can help some players to become involved with professional clubs with our links. However, our mission is to help develop each and every player to help them reach their individual potential.

“We have players from Pontefract, Hemsworth, Upton and South Elmsall attending our sessions and big improvements have been made by all of them.”
