After being without a game last Saturday despite still having at least 10 left to play this season, Hemsworth MW were pleased to be back into action on Tuesday night when at home to Rainworth MW in the Toolstation NCE Premier Division.
Wayne Benn’s men went into the game in ninth position, three places below their visitors, but only four points behind them with two games in hand so they knew a win would certainly boost their hopes of a top six finish.
And a win they achieved with a fine display as they were two up at the interval and eventually ran out 4-1 victors.
Chris Ovington set Wells on the way with the opening goal on 19 minutes and Richard Collier doubled the advantage with a screamer of a free-kick.
Kyle Jordan pulled a goal back for Rainworth after the break, but within two minutes the two-goal lead was restored with Ovington netting his second.
Any hopes of a comeback for the visitors were ended when Brad Dockerty struck six minutes from time.
Hemsworth are also due to be in action again tonight as they aim to catch up on fixtures lost when away at relegation battlers Hall Road Rangers in another Premier Division match.
With the games coming thick and fast they are away to Liversedge this Saturday and take on Worksop Town at home next Tuesday.
