Frickley Athletic have added a new director to their board with coffee shop owner Alan Mears joining.
Originally from Cannock, in Staffordshire Alan moved to Yorkshire aged 23. He formerly worked for British Coal and Marks and Spencer where his final role as area manager for the Midlands made him responsible for 10 stores with a combined turnover in excess of 150 million.
In 2004 he set up his own coffee shop business, which is still going strong.
Alan said: “I feel honoured at being asked to become a director at Frickley Athletic. I have passion for the game and an appetite for success both on and off the pitch and hopefully the skills and ability from my background will help the club grow and prosper.”
Frickley chief executive Ryan McKnight said: “I’ve got to know Alan over the last couple of years and have been nothing but impressed at his experience, manner and approach to business and football.
“We are still weak in a number of areas at the club and this appointment will see particular focus to those areas, leaning on Alan’s experience and expertise, which will hopefully see some positive changes for our supporters.”
