Hemsworth MW go for more FA Vase glory this Saturday when they host Sunderland RCA, looking to extend their fantastic run in a competition that ends at Wembley.

After their 3-2 success against West Auckland Town in the first round, Wayne Benn’s men take on another side from the north east in round two with the tie kicking off at 3pm at the MDC Stadium.

Sunderland play in the Northern League Division One – the same as West Auckland – and currently stand in sixth place.

They go into the Vase tie in good form with a 2-1 win over Whitley Bay, but Hemsworth also should not lack confidence after their previous displays in the Vase this season and they are unbeaten in seven games in all competitions.

Saturday’s second round tie has been sponsored by JJ Leisure of South Elmsall, who are the suppliers of all Hemsworth’s kit, track suits and training equipment.

The club would like to thank them for this and their continued support.

Welfare go into the game still top of Division One of the Toolstation NCE League, but off the back of a draw after they were held by fourth-placed Penistone Church last Saturday.

Although they trailed early they looked set for all three points when they led 3-1, but were pegged back by two goals in the last 14 minutes.

Oliver Fearon struck first for Penistone on 14 minutes before Hemsworth equalised on the stroke of half-time through Shane Kelsey’s 11th goal of the season.

Five minutes into the second half they were ahead through top scorer Bill Law and the same player struck again on 58 minutes to make it 3-1.

But Penistone kept battling and pulled a goal back through Daniel Joynes before Joynes doubled his tally seven minutes from time to earn his side a draw.

Hemsworth MW are holding their second sportsman’s dinner evening with guest speaker the former Leeds United, Man United and England player Lee Sharpe.

The event is on Friday, December 11 at 7.30pm in the Pit Club, Fitzwilliam.

Tickets are £25 each and selling fast so anyone interested please contact Wayne Benn on 07776241981.

A two course meal by Akash Lounge, of Hemsworth, along with a raffle, stand up sit down bingo and a sporting auction will also take place on the night.
