Hemsworth MW are determined to end their much improved season well although promotion is now beyond them in Division One of the Toolstation NCE League.
Wayne Benn’s men effectively had their hopes of going into the Premier Division dashed when they lost to leaders Pontefract Collieries last week and second-placed Clipstone beat Hall Road Rangers 5-1 last Saturday.
Welfare did keep their hopes alive with a 2-1 home success against Eccleshill United on Saturday, but were still left eight points behind Clipstone with just three matches left to play this season.
Clipstone were then in action at Worsbrough Bridge Athletic on Tuesday night knowing that another victory for them would clinch their promotion and finally end Hemsworth’s last hope of going up. This they duly achieved, a 3-0 success confirming Welfare’s fears.
It is Welfare’s turn to travel to play Worsbrough tonight (kick-off 7.45pm) and they will be looking for another three points to help them finish as high up the table as they can.
Hemsworth go into the game in fifth spot, but can overhaul third-placed AFC Emley with wins in each of their last three games and they are also in action on Saturday when at home to Yorkshire Amateur (3pm) before finishing up away at Winterton Rangers on May 2.
It took Welfare until the second half to establish control in their game against Eccleshill last Saturday.
Good defence kept them out in the opening 45 minutes before two goals in a minute round the hour mark had Hemsworth finally in command.
First Dom Blair netted then Sam Colbear was on target from the very next attack from the restart to make it 2-0.
That was how it stayed until Eccleshill got a 90th minute consolation goal from Ishmael Mills.
Hemsworth MW are looking for a club physio for the start of the 2015-16 season.
The role is open to anyone who is looking to gain experience or just starting out as a physio and they will need to be available on match days and training nights.
