Hemsworth MW’s preparations are up and running with their first pre-season game played against Bradford Park Avenue on Saturday.
The game had an earlier 12.30pm kick-off to avoid clashing with the England World Cup quarter-final and saw Wells earn a 1-1 draw thanks to a late goal forced in from a scramble in the area.
Hemsworth gave as good as they got for much of the contest against their National League North opponents who fielded a different side in each half.
Wells continue their build-up to the new NCE League campaign with further home pre-season friendlies at the Yorkshire Nubuilds Stadium against Newark Flowserve on Friday (7.45pm), Ossett United next Tuesday (7.45pm) and a Barnsley FC XI on Friday, July 20 (7pm).
They travel to play Whitkirk Wanderers next Wednesday (7pm), Beeston St Anthony’s (July 24, 7pm) and Nostell MW (July 27, 7.45pm).
Hemsworth, meanwhile, have been drawn at home to Runcorn Town in the extra preliminary round of the Emirates FA Cup with the tie due to take place on Saturday, August 11 (3pm). The winners will travel to either Penistone Church or Bootle in the preliminary round.
In the Buildbase FA Vase, Hemsworth have a bye in the opening round and will travel to Wythenshawe Town or Rylands in the second qualifying round on Saturday, September 15.
Wells hope to have the majority of last season’s squad representing them again this year as they look to build on their best-ever league finish last term. But they have lost two of their players with striker Danny Critchlow and midfielder both joining Nostell MW.
