Frickley Athletic have announced their first signings ahead of the new season, including bringing back goal machine Gavin Allott.
In his previous spell with the Blues Allott proved a big hit, scoring 88 goals in three seasons before going on to Shaw Lane who he helped to promotion to the Evo-Stik Premier.
Frickley’s board are delighted that Allott has penned a deal to return to the club after an undisclosed fee was agreed with Shaw Lane.
Manager Spencer Fearn said: “We are delighted that Gavin is coming back to Westfield Lane and that he has chosen this move ahead of offers from teams higher up the pyramid.
“He is a tremendous player and we all look forward to working with him.
“Allott is the first of many new signings as the squad is overhauled for the campaign ahead. Only one player has been retained from last season, our top stopper Seb Malkowski.”
Frickley have also brought popular defender John Cyrus back to the club with Fearn delighted to secure his signature for the season ahead.
He said: “It’s fantastic that a player of John’s quality is re-joining us here at Frickley Athletic.
“Very much like Gavin he had offers from higher up the pyramid and has chosen Westfield Lane to play his football next season.
“He’s a very popular player at our club and it will be great to see him in a Frickley shirt again.”
More names have been revealed for the new look squad with former Ossett Town captain Richard Patterson joining to add some experience and know-how to the midfield.
The 32-year-old has also featured for Stocksbridge Park Steels, Staveley MW, Parkgate, Thackley, Clipstone and Goole.
Fearn said: “This is another great signing for us. Richard has a wealth of experience at this level, is a very good footballer and a winner.”
More firepower has been added to the squad in the shape of Mark Simpson and Steve Hopewell.
Simpson, 22, previously of Garforth Town, smashed 30 goals in the NCE Premier League last season and broke the club scoring record when he netted in 10 consecutive matches.
He was the Garforth supporters player of the year and received two special awards for reaching 100 club appearances and breaking the club scoring record. He has also had previous stints at Pontefract Collieries, Nostell MW and Ossett Town.
Hopewell, 28, has been at Maltby the past two seasons, where he scooped the players’ player and fans player of the year awards in the last campaign. He is a hard working centre forward with some spectacular goals in his locker.
Fearn was pleased with the two new signings, adding: “I have known Steve for two years now and you will not find a more honest and hard working player.
“He is strong, a real handful for opposing defenders, scores some cracking goals and is a big influence on and off the field.
“I have also seen Mark the past two seasons and been very impressed with him, he has two great feet, superb movement and is clinical in front of goal.
“When we spoke he decided pretty much straight away that he wanted to join us. I am delighted to have two further players with this quality in our squad.”
