Frickley Athletic striker Reece Thompson completed his trial at York City last week and is now set for trials at League One side Barnsley.
Thompson trained with York from Tuesday to Friday last week and featured in the second half of their pre-season friendly against Leeds United on Wednesday, seemingly impressing York manager Russ Wilcox.
But York’s initial offer for the striker does not meet Frickley’s expectations, especially with so much interest in the player from numerous clubs.
With Barnsley now showing a keen interest it has been agreed that 21-year-old Thompson will train with the Oakwell club for a week from Monday, July 27, but will be available for the Blues to play in the pre-season friendly against a Barnsley XI on Tuesday, July 28 (kick-off 7pm).
Thompson has been watched by several clubs after scoring 16 goals in 32 appearances since joining Frickley from Retford United last October.
