Frickley Athletic step up their preparations for the new season when they head for their short tour of Scotland today.
The tour will be aiming to foster team spirit in the squad ahead of a challenging season ahead in the Evo-Stik League following some restructuring of the non-league pyramid.
Spencer Fearn’s men will play two games on their Scottish trip, taking on Lowland League side East Stirlingshire tonight (7pm) at the Ochilview Park Stadium and another Lowland League team, Civil Service Strollers, on Saturday (1pm) at the Christie Gillies Park Stadium.
Another pre-season game awaits the Frickley boys on their return south as they host Football League side Doncaster Rovers at Westfield Lane next Tuesday (7.30pm).
The Evo-Stik League campaign begins on Saturday, August 18, with the fixtures released at 10am next Thursday.
Frickley now know who they will be up against having been confirmed to be playing in the newly created East Division for the 2018-19 season.
They will be competing with newly promoted near neighbours Pontefract Collieries as well as the new Ossett United team – formed through a merger of Town and Albion.
Travel time will certainly be cut down with other Yorkshire clubs in the division in Sheffield FC, Stocksbridge Park Steels, Tadcaster Albion, Brighouse Town, Marske United and Pickering Town.
The rest of the division is made up of AFC Mansfield, Belper Town, Carlton Town, Cleethorpes Town, Gresley, Lincoln United, Loughborough Dynamo, Morpeth Town, Spalding United, Stamford and Wisbech Town.
Under the new restructure the Evo-Stik League has been reduced from 68 clubs to 62 with 22 in the Premier and 20 in each of the new East and West divisions.
Frickley Athletic Community Foundation, meanwhile, is running its first ever summer camps for youngsters at the Bigfellas Stadium, South Elmsall.
The camps for five to 13-year-olds will run throughout the school six week summer holiday and will give children the chance to enhance their footballing skills while keeping active and having fun.
