Frickley Athletic manager Karl Rose says the club are close to signing six new players to bolster the squad ahead of the new season.
Frickley ended last season with a string of defeats in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier Division, though they did beat Sheffield FC to lift the Sheffield & Hallam Senior Cup.
Rose is targeting a host of new signings to provide strength in depth and more competition to an impressive starting XI.
He said: “There was not a lot wrong last season, when our best 11 was on the pitch we are as good as anyone in the league.
“We need a couple of centre halves, some more options on the wing and another striker and goalkeeper.
“We are speaking to lots of players and have definitely got six new ones coming in to bolster us and provide more competition for places.”
Rose is also hoping to finalise Frickley’s pre-season schedule this week, with high-profile matches against Barnsley, Sheffield Wednesday and Scunthorpe all confirmed.
He said: “We have got some really big friendlies and I’m delighted that they are coming to play us.
“I am finalising three away games this week, probably from the league below.”
Frickley ended a ten-year trophy drought last month as Rose tasted success in his first season at the club.
He is now hoping to kick on from that triumph and impress in the league next year.
He said: “We achieved our goals this year but it was an up and down season, frustrating at times.
“When we first took over one of the aims was to get some silverware.
“We had a real opportunity to win the cup this year, and we did it the hard way, beating the best sides in the competition.”
