Frickley line up friendly against Wilcox’s Scunthorpe

Manager Karl Rose has arranged his first two pre-season fixtures for Frickley Athletic with home games against Football League team Scunthorpe United and then a match against Skrill North side North Ferriby United.

League Two Manager of the Year Russ Wilcox has agreed to bring a Scunthorpe side to Westfield Lane on Tuesday, July 29, kick-off 7pm while Billy Heath’s East Riding Senior Cup winners North Ferriby will visit Westfield Lane on Saturday, August 2, kick-off 3pm.

More games will be announced in due course, but the first of the matches will be a cracker against a Scunny team that went into the record books in the season just finished.

It ended with their promotion to League One in one of the automatic positions and along the way manager Wilcox, who took over from Brian Laws in November, beat the record for the longest unbeaten run at the beginning of a managerial reign in Football League history.

Hemsworth raised Wilcox began his football career with Frickley before going on to play for Northampton Town, Hull City, Doncaster Rovers, Preston and Scunthorpe, where he was assistant manager, a role he has also held at Sheffield Wednesday, Burnley and Bournemouth.
